CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, April 20 (PIA) - With the theme, "Change Starts Here," the Modern Nanays of Mindanao (MNM) will host the annual international event, "Great Cloth Diaper Change (GCDC)," on April 22, 10AM in Cagayan de Oro City.

The theme highlights the change that occurs when a local business gains one new customer by providing information on the available cloth nappies and sellers in the locality, when a parent makes one new friend with a common interest, and when the community sees one united front of families working to create a cultural shift towards cloth diapering and all its benefits.

The international event primarily aims to gather mothers and families to simultaneously change the diapers of their babies to a cloth diaper and underscore the advantages of using such over disposable diapers.

Moreover, for this year, the GCDC coincides with the observance of Earth Day. Hence, it serves as a great venue to heighten the awareness of those who have no experience in using reusable cloth diapers on the effects of disposable diapers to the environment and how they can shun away from patronizing eco-damaging products.

Aside from the simultaneous diaper changing, various activities are lined-up to make the event extra significant and these include the discussion on the types of cloth diapers, risks of disposables, cloth nappy care, do-it-yourself stripping, tips on handling cloth diapers while traveling, and the presentation and awarding of "Kuwentong Cloth Diaper (Cloth Diaper Story)."

In 2016, the MNM has gathered 120 mothers with their families in celebration of the event and for this year, 150 families are expected to join.

The registration of the event started as early as February and the fee is P195 per participant that already includes one seat reservation, loot bag and raffle tickets.

The GCDC was conceived and organized by a small group of cloth diaper enthusiasts in 2011 to demonstrate that cloth diapers are a real option for today's families.(RTP/PIA10)
