Four killed, 11 wounded in grenade attack in Philippines

Philippines News.Net
Thursday 3rd July, 2008 (IANS)

Four people were killed and 11 injured in a grenade attack by communist rebels on a bakeshop in a southern Philippine town Thursday, officials said.

Major Armand Rico, a regional military spokesman, said the grenade was lobbed at the Park and Go Bakeshop in Nabunturan town in Compostela Valley, 930 km south of Manila, before dawn.

Rico said communist rebels were believed to be behind the attack.

'The motive is believed to be the bakeshop's non-payment of revolutionary taxes demanded by the guerrillas,' he said.

Provincial Governor Arthur Chiongky Uy said four people - one policeman, two students and a driver - were killed in the attack.

He offered a 200,000-peso ($4,450) cash reward for information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Communist rebels have in the past attacked companies and business establishments that refuse to pay revolutionary taxes, which have become a major source of their funds.

The guerrillas have been fighting the Philippine government since the late 1960s, making the movement one of the longest-running leftist insurgencies in Asia.

Four killed, 11 wounded in grenade attack in Philippines

It is very sad to know what is happening in the Philippines. It seems to me that the commnist rebels are killing inocent people forcing people to pay tax by force. They collect money for what.May be they are sending money to Europe to support Sison while hiding in Netherland having a good time while his follower is fighting for him. Or may be it is a big business to make money. I do not know but I know the Pilipinos is running the island to hell. Now the Philippines is no longer the pearl of the ocean but the peril of the ocean. The biggest expert of the is human. We produce young talented Pilipinos to find job over seas. That is not good, all jobs is going to Malaysian,Indonisia, Vietnam,Borneo,Taiwan,China,Singapore.
Overseas investors are leaving the Philippines because the country is very unstable, strikes, rebellions, kidnapping and coruppt goverment. We can not even produce our own rice to feed the nation.Everybody wanted to be goverment official, elected or appointed because there is where the money to be had. Patay na ang Pinas
