Political positions revealed in Zimbabwe talks
Philippines News.Net Wednesday 6th August, 2008
The governing ZANU-PF party in Zimbabwe and the opposition MDC party have called on their supporters to stop political violence.
The call suggests progress is being made in the negotiations which are taking place currently between the two sides.
In South Africa, where the meetings are taking place, there has been speculation that a draft agreement has already been prepared by the parties to make opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai the ruling prime minister while President Robert Mugabe would take on a ceremonial role to reflect his role as founder of the country.
The agreement is also said to stipulate that Mr Mugabe and his closest colleagues would be granted immunity from criminal proceedings.
