BAA might have to sell airport space

The chairman of airport operator BAA in the UK has said he expects the company to be broken up if Britain's Competition Commission regulator forces the move.

Nigel Rudd has acknowledged BAA might have to sell off some of its key airports.

One proposal to be put forward by the commission will be stripping BAA of two of the three London airports it operates Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted.

Mr Rudd said BAA's owners had already received expressions of interest from potential buyers for Gatwick and Stansted, although neither is for sale at the moment.
