Philippines News.Net Wednesday 18th November, 2009
Film star Nicolas Cage has visited a Kenyan prison where suspected Somali pirates are being held.
Mr Cage toured the Shimo La Tewa prison in the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa, where he had gone to highlight the problem of piracy in the Indian Ocean.
Cage, who is a UN Goodwill Ambassador on Drugs and Crime, said he went to the prison to hear the stories of the alleged pirates, in an attempt understand what is fueling piracy off the Somali coast.
The suspects danced for him and shook his hand.
After the visit, Cage said he would go back to the US where he would speak to UN councils about his visit.
Somali pirates are currently holding around a dozen ships and more than 200 crew after attacks in local waters. Email this story to a friend
