Blackberry blamed for national security breaches

Philippines News.Net
Sunday 25th July, 2010

The BlackBerry mobile phone, made by Canada's Research In Motion, has been condemned in the Middle-east for posing a security risk.

With Bahrain already warning against the use of BlackBerry Messenger software to distribute local news, other Gulf countries have now said they might consider curbing the use of certain applications on the BlackBerry.

The UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has complained BlackBerry has been operating without authority due to the way BlackBerry data is managed and stored.

UAE authorities have said they are working to resolve critical issues in BlackBerry applications that allow people to create serious national security breaches.

The BlackBerry offers data communication encrypted using one of the world’s most complex security codes.

In India, intelligence officials have complained they can't decipher the encrypted data sent on BlackBerry handsets, which were used during the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai.
