Baptist leader charged with molestation in America

A leading Baptist minister from the UK has been charged over allegations he molested young boys on church trips to the United States.

Robert Dando, 46, was arrested in Fairfax County, Virginia, after a complaint was made to police by a family in the area.

Dando is alleged to have sexually abused two boys, starting from when they were aged seven and eight, during visits to the family home.

The abuse, which allegedly occurred over a period of five years, has led to Dando's resignation from Worcester Park Baptist Church in a district of West London.

Dando is well known for work in many countries where he was an official of the Boys’ Brigade.

He has also worked for a children’s charity in India and was executive assistant to the president of the Baptist World Alliance.

Dando has been charged in the US with four counts of aggravated sexual battery following the complaint of one of the alleged victims, who is now aged 21.
