PASAY CITY, August 10 -- It is that time of the year again as the Department of Science and Technology's Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI) holds the National Invention Contest and Exhibit (NICE) this 14 to 16 August 2018 at the Le Pavillon Metropolitan Park in Pasay City.
Participating entries to the NICE 2018 are the winning innovations from the various Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit (RICE) held across the country in the previous year. The regional competition encourages both public and private sector inventors and researchers to showcase their inventive capabilities, ingenuity, and creativity.
The NICE kicks off on 14 August with the DOST Secretary Fortunato T. de la Pena leading the program. The event's major highlight is the awarding of the top winners for 2018, including the special recognition of the winners in the 46thInternational Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.
NICE 2018's top winners will receive citations and cash prizes as the competition features six categories: Outstanding Invention (TUKLAS), Outstanding Utility Model, Outstanding Industrial Design, Outstanding Creative Research (LIKHA), Creative Research for College Students (SIBOL), and Creative Research for High School Students (SIBOL).
This annual invention contest was launched by the DOST to support Republic Act 7459, also known as the "Inventors and Invention Incentives Act of the Philippines".The National Invention Contest and Exhibit recognizes the indispensability of the Filipino inventors in the country and their valuable contribution to the national economic development.
Supported by the DOST-TAPI, the program highlights the importance of producing new ideas and inventions that are not only useful to the society but also possess commercial viability. All contestants and national winners shall commit to push for the commercialization of their inventions and researches once opportunities are provided. (DepEd)
