CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Oct. 8 (PIA) -- Commissioner Ceasar R. Dulay of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) held a dialogue with key stakeholders of Revenue Region (RR) 16 to address issues confronting taxpayers in the region and enlist their support for the BIR's tax collection efforts.
In order to serve Revenue Region (RR) 16 taxpayers more efficiently, Commissioner of Internal Revenue Ceasar R. Dulay and his deputy commissioners, Arnel SD. Guballa and Marissa Cabreros, lead the groundbreaking ceremony of a five-storey building that will serve as the new regional office of RR 16. (PIA/Cagayan de Oro)
Dubbed as Panaghinabi kang Commissioner Billy ug mga DepComs (Conversation with Commissioner Billy and Deputy Commissioners), the dialogue brought together BIR Deputy Commissioners Arnel SD. Guballa and Marissa Cabreros, RR 16 and its District Offices officials, as well as top taxpayers and members of Chambers of Commerce in the region.
Commissioner Dulay said he invited his deputy commissioners to the dialogue because taxpayers in the region deserve the best after their positive response in last year's tax campaign.
In 2017, the region collected P13.04 billion, exceeding its collection goal of P12.87 billion.
"We are hitting our collection goals. We have seen how the taxpayers have responded, and that was an inspiration for me to adopt the logo 'Salamat Sa 'Yo' and launched our 2018 'pasasalamat' tax campaign," he further said.
The issuance of tax clearances, technical glitches in the electronic filing and payment system (EFPS), and information dissemination of tax updates were among the concerns raised during the dialgoue.
Taxpayers from Marawi City also asked for tax relief after suffering from the Marawi siege.
They reported cases of looting incidents causing inventory losses as well as difficulty in accessing the EFPS due to lack of internet connectivity.
Deputy Commissioner Cabreros said the BIR is aware of the circumstances affecting Marawi taxpayers and that there is an existing mechanism for tax relief. "If there are unusual circumstances, you just have it documented and file for suspension of MCIT," she added.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Guballa of the Operations Group asked the stakeholders to support RR-16 in reaching its 2018 collection goal, adding that the collections will be used to support the "Build, Build, Build" program of the President.
RR-16 is tasked to collect P12.8 billion, and it has collected P6.59 billion as of August.
He is optimistic that with the help of the taxpayers, RR-16 can collect the remaining P6.27 billion for the remainder of the year.
During their visit, Dulay and his deputies also led the groundbreaking ceremony of a five-storey building that will serve as the new regional office of RR 16.
"Upon completion, we will be able to serve the taxpayers more efficiently and it will be more convenient for you when you do business with BIR," the Commissioner noted.
RR-16 covers the provinces of Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur. (APB/PIA10)
