TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Nov. 14 (PIA) - - The town of Amulung in this province snatched the most coveted Green Banner Award in this year's search for outstanding nutrition program implementers (provincial level).

Amulung bested 27 other towns, including this city, in the efficient implementation of nutrition programs and in addressing malnutrition problems in the communities.

Other winners include the towns of Claveria (second place) and Buguey (third place).

According to Dr. Carlos Cortina, provincial health officer, the annual search aims to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of local governments in planning and implementing local nutrition programs.

He said the search also aims to evaluate the interventions done by LGUs in partnership with various agencies and organizations in ensuring health care for the people.

"We urge other LGUs to seriously implement nutrition-related programs and monitor regularly the nutritional status of the people, especially the children who are most vulnerable to various health and nutrition problems," Cortina said.

Meanwhile, Jovelyn Ifurung of barangay Gabut, also in Amulung, bagged the Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar award in the province, followed by Hedy Villanueva of Tallungan, Aparri and Rowenalie Lattao of Callao, Penablanca as second and third placers, respectively. (ALM/OTB/PIA-2 Cagayan)
