TIWI, Albay, Jan. 10 (PIA) - As a response to communities affected by Tropical Depression (TD) Usman, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) turned-over 350 relief packs to the affected families of this town, Tuesday, Jan. 8.

"This is a simple gesture of giving back to communities hosting our transmission facilities. Sana po makatulong ang NGCP sa immediate needs ng mga evacuee," NGCP Regional Communications and Public Affairs Officer Nilda E. Somera said.

The municipality of Tiwi, one of the hardest hit by TD 'Usman' is host to NGCP's Tiwi Substation, Naga-Tiwi 280 KV line to Plant A, and Naga-Tiwi 230 KV line to Plant C.

Somera, together with NGCP's Transmission Line Chief Engineer Virgilio Rojo and NGCP Substation Head Charles Bilangel personally turned-over the relief packs to Tiwi Mayor Jaime Villanueva at the town's municipal hall.

TD Usman left the town with 15 casualties, 18 injured and 6 missing due to flashfloods, affecting 4,835 households with 248 families or 951 individuals in evacuation centers located at Naga National High School.

"This is the first time that we encountered casualties. During the typhoons Reming and Nina which were considered category 5 typhoons with Tiwi as its center, we were zero casualty," Villanueva narrated.

"I want to thank NGCP for this big help to my constituents. The relief packs will be of great help especially for those evacuees who have to stay here longer due to the fissures in their locality," the Mayor added.

NGCP relief pack consists of 3 kilos of rice, canned goods, choco powder drinks, bottled water, blanket, slipper, T-shirt, flashlight with batteries, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, and first aid kit, among others. (JRM-PIA5/Camarines Sur)
