BULAKAN, Bulacan, Jan.11 (PIA) -- President Rodrigo R. Duterte led Thursday the groundbreaking of school buildings of General Gregorio del Pilar National High School.

Accompanied by partner Cielito "Honeylet" S. Avancena and Education Secretary Leonor M. Briones, he also unveiled the miniature school building plan of Pandi National High School.

"Once completed, these buildings will serve as a testament of our commitment in investing in the potential of our youth. These structures will promote well-being, nurture the dreams and become a breeding ground for future leaders of our country," he said.

"Education is indeed the most valuable gift that we can leave behind to the succeeding generations. This is why I have been firm in my stand that no Filipino youth should ever be denied access to high quality education whatever circumstances they maybe in," Duterte added.

Per Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 3, General Gregorio del Pilar National High School was established to decongest nearby secondary schools of overpopulation.

There are four secondary schools in Bulakan, but none is located in the central portion of the municipality and the nearby barangays of Tibig, Maysantol, Balubad, Bagumbayan, Pitpitan, Sta. Ana, Sta. Ines and San Nicolas.

Expected enrolment for the first curriculum year of operation is 385, projected to be 1,540 four years thereafter, and 2,310 up to Grade 12. In addition to this will be the number of students transferring in from the nearby secondary schools as their cost-cutting interventions.

6,676 sq.m. portion of the 19,931 sq.m. lot occupied by General Gregorio del Pilar Elementary School was used as site for buildings of the new secondary school.

Two units of 4-storey, 24-classroom, and one unit of 4-storey, 12-classroom buildings have already been included in the priority list of DepED under Calendar Year (CY) 2018 Basic Education Facilities Fund (BEFF) with a total contract amounting to P156,429,013.24.

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is the implementing agency of the project that is expected to be completed in November 2019.
