ILOILO CITY, Jan. 11 (PIA6) - More than 6,000 police personnel and augmentation forces will be tapped to secure the key events of the 2019 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival.
Senior Superintendent Martin Defensor Jr., Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Director, said that security preparations are underway to ensure the peaceful and orderly staging of the world-renowned festival.
"We are almost 95 percent ready. This week or early next week, we will finalize everything," he said.
According to the ICPO head, the Philippine National Police will be deploying 2,347 police personnel during the festival highlights.
Defensor said that partner agencies and organizations including the Armed Forces of the Philippines, local government units, various colleges and universities, among others have committed to send their personnel to help secure the activities for the festival.
He added that they have sent their request to the National Telecommunications Commission to order the shutdown of cellular signals as part of security measures.
"We have applied for signal jamming but we are still waiting for approval," he said.
He said that once their request for signal jamming is approved, this will be implemented during the two-day highlights on Jan. 26 and 27, from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., within Iloilo City Proper. (JBG/LTP/PIA-Iloilo)
