SAN FERNANDO CITY, May 24 (PIA) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office 1 bagged a national award for deploying 158 STARBOOKS which is the highest number of units distributed nationwide in 2018.
STARBOOKS is the first digital science library-in-a-box that stands for Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station developed by the Science and Technology Information Institute (STII) of the DOST.
"We are grateful for this recognition of being the top among all regional offices of DOST that distributed the most number of STARBOOKS units," said James D. Prepose, DOST-1 project assistant.
On May 10, Prepose received a plaque of recognition from STII Director Richard P. Burgos during the Consultative Workshop on the Latest Content and Development in STARBOOKS held at Golden Prince Hotel in Cebu City.
He said of the 158 units, 66 were deployed in Pangasinan, 36 in La Union, 33 in Ilocos Sur, and 23 in Ilocos Norte. Recipients were both public and private institutions that entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the DOST.
"We will continue to promote STARBOOKS because information from the kiosks can be of great help to our students as references for subjects on Math, Science, English, Filipino and Social Studies from Grades 1 to 12," Prepose said.
He added that these references are already patterned to the K-12 program of the Department of Education.
This year, the DOST-1 had already distributed five units of STARBOOKS to the following Pangasinan schools: Ladder of Success Montessori School; Balungao National High School; Calapugan Elementary School; San Miguel Elementary School; and Natividad National High School. One unit was also given to San Nicholas Elementary School in Ilocos Norte.
Meanwhile, Prepose said interested parties can send their request to the DOST-1 for STARBOOKS installation. (JNPD/PIA La Union)
