Pres. Duterte tells new AFP officers to serve the country well

BAGUIO CITY, May 26 (PIA) - -President Rodrigo Roa Duterte called on the new graduates of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to serve the country well and die for the nation if need be for the sake of the future generation.

"Serve your country well. Die for your country if need be. Remember the young Filipinos yet to come, the children, and those who are studying. Huwag nyong kalimutan yan. And if you think that the country is not run the way it is and if it will destroy your country, you should know what to do, "the President told the 261 graduates belonging to PMA "MABALASIK" Class of 2019 in today's commencement rites.

He encouraged the batch to always remain faithful to their mission to protect the Constitution and the people, secure the Philippine sovereignty and preserve the integrity of the national territory amid the challenges the country is facing.

As their Commander in -Chief, the President also laid down vital points that they should instil in themselves as junior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

First is to be humble as nothing beats humility.

"Always remember that the rank, authority and trust of your subordinates and the people that you serve are borne out of respect for the office that you carry," he said.

With success requiring other disciplines, he advised the new second lieutenants and ensigns to be teachable in all endeavours and disciplines.

The President also enjoined them to be always grateful to all those who have taught, prayed and believed in them.

"Lastly, always look at each others' back in the field as nobody wins alone. "

The PMA Class of 2019 is led by Dionne Mae Apolog Umalla of Alilem, Ilocos Sur.

The President presented the Presidential Saber Award to Umalla as the top graduate of her batch.

Pres. Duterte also gifted the class "goat," Danmark Solomon of Bugallon, Pangasinan, a Caliber. 45 pistol. (JDP/PIA-CAR)
