Ugsad members to sign partnership agreement

ILOILO CITY, July 17 (PIA) -- Member institutions of the Ugsad Regional Gender Resource Center in Western Visayas is set to sign a new Partnership Agreement on July 26, 2019.

Dr. Mary Barby Badayos-Jover, coordinator of Ugsad GRC and director of the University of the Philippines Visayas Gender and Development program, said the signing is part of the series of activities organized for the 20th year anniversary celebration of Ugsad this July 22-26 with the theme, "Padayon nga Paghugpong: Advocating for a Gender-Responsive Region VI."

"The week-long celebration aims to reestablish linkages and renew the commitment of the various Ugsad member-institutions," said Jover.

Established in July 1999, Ugsad GRC in Western Visayas is a coordinating body composed of around 90 institutions that facilitate gender mainstreaming in the region.

The week-long celebration will commence with an ecumenical service on July 22 at Jaro Plaza. This will be followed by a caravan that will end at the UP Visayas Auditorium where a public forum on "The Status of Gender Mainstreaming in the Philippines" with Dr. Rhodora Bucoy, chair of the board of the Philippine Commission on Women will be held .

Also, a Forum on Gender and Mental Health will take place on July 25 at the Educational Technology Center of the Iloilo Science and Technology University in La Paz district. Licensed professional counselor and UP Open University's Office director Prof. Rameses De Jesus is the invited resource speaker.

Earlier, series of talks were conducted to capacitate the GAD Focal Point System of Ugsad member-institutions. These capacity-building activities included Workshop on Women and Power and RTD: Misogyny in the Time of Dutertismo.
