BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Aug. 20 (PIA)--The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here has procured more equipment to strengthen its role on the enforcement of environmental laws, regulations and issuances.
Forester Edgar Martin, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO), said they have acquired communication equipment and mobility vehicles to empower their enforcement personnel in guarding their respective areas and enforce their necessary mandates.
"These equipment have been distributed to our field offices to assist them in enforcing the agency's mandates on environment protection and management," he said.
Martin also added that they have hired 11 Forest Protection Officers (FPOs) to augment the efforts of forest protection and patrol activities in the province.
The DENR, he further said also maintains three Forest Protection Groups (FPGs) in the towns of Sta. Fe, Quezon and Kasibu.
From January to June 2019, the DENR here has seized and confiscated more than 1,488 board feet of illegal forest products, two vehicles, three chainsaws and filed 8 criminal cases in various courts.
"Our enforcement personnel were assisted by the Philippine National Police (PNP), PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), local government units and civilian volunteers," Martin added.
More than 1,985 kilometers were also patrolled by the DENR personnel here under the Lawin Forest and Biodiversity Protection System (LFBPS) which accounts for 276 percent of their target this year.
LFBPS is an integrated science-based assessment, user-friendly scheme that allows the use of innovative technology in monitoring the status of the forest.
It also helps the environmental monitoring especially in forest and biodiversity areas of highly conservation value and allows communities and authorities to alleviate the status of the natural forest and properly manage the ecosystem against degradation and deforestation.
