ROXAS CITY, Capiz, Aug. 23 (PIA) -- Six historical landmarks will be given "facelift" by the Roxas City government in the aim to reconfigure the city as a premier tourist destination.

These are the Roxas City Bridge, Roxas City Fountain, Provincial Capitol, Roxas City Metropolitan Cathedral, Public Band Stand and Roxas City Museum which are within the vicinity of the public plaza.

"We will declare this as heritage zone," said Roxas City mayor Ronnie T. Dadivas during a recent coffee talk with local tri-media practitioners, adding that the support of the Roxas City Council will be asked for the declaration.

The local government unit will also ask the National Historical Commission of the Philippines for the installation of markers on the historical landmarks.

"These heritage structures are still being used until now. In other places, their heritage structures are ruins or remnants only," Dadivas noted who included the city's clean up and beautification as among the priority agenda to regain the city's glory as the cleanest and greenest locality in the region.

He added that a landscape and lightings will be put up at the city plaza to make it a "more charming" space and something to look forward to this December for the city residents and visitors.

The playground at the plaza will be transferred to Baybay Beach in the effort to also develop the area as another tourist attraction. (LTP/AAL/PIA Capiz)
