CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Aug. 24 (PIA) - The Philippine Information Agency Calabarzon led the first General Meeting and Orientation of the Calabarzon Association of Government Information Officers (CAGIO) at the NEDA 4A Bldg., Brgy. Milagrosa, this city on August 20.
PIA Calabarzon intends to revive the region's public information network through the CAGIO to continuously strengthen the collaboration and harmonization of development communication programs among the regional line agencies.
PIA Calabarzon Regional Head Cristina Arzadon said engaging information networks is pursuant to PIA's mandate as the national government's on-ground communication arm.
"We continue to engage our information networks for development communication and ensure that government programs and services are delivered to the public using different media platforms," Arzadon said.
She added: "In these times when the country faces various challenges in various fronts, it is important for PIA to put across the message that the government is addressing all these concerns head on."
Key issues that our government wants to address through information advocacy include disinformation, discrimination by reason of gender, and the communist insurgency.
"PIA is at the forefront of these advocacies. But we cannot do it alone. We need to collaborate with other state agencies, the media and other stakeholders to inform our communities on the ground," Arzadon said.
She also introduced the programs and services of PIA to the 17 information officers who participated in the meeting, and emphasized that one of the campaigns being pushed by the agency is Administration's Executive Order (EO) 70 which is the "whole-of-nation approach" in resolving the 50-year long insurgencies in the country.
To enlighten participants on the concept of whole-of-nation approach, PIA Calabarzon invited a team from the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Region 4A led by Regional Director Librado Moog to orient participants on the government's campaign against the communist terrorist groups (CTG) and also the formation of a National Task Force to end communist insurgency in the country.
"We know that your group ay pwedeng gawing mechanism into the creation of the strategic communications plan of EO 70, hindi na mahihirapan kasi alam naming napakahalaga ng posisyon niyo in our advocacy in defeating the communist terrorist groups," RD Moog pointed out.
(We know that we can use your group as a mechanism in the creation of the strategic communications plan of EO 70. We won't find it that difficult because of your key positions in our advocacy to defeat the communist terrorist groups.)
He stressed that the information officers' access to traditional and new media is vital in drumming up the campaign to end local communist armed conflict.
Cecilia Maloles of PIA Calabarzon presented the Gender Fair Media, discussing how gender equality will be incorporated into the tasks of public information officers may it be in writing, broadcast or daily practical undertakings.
PIA Rizal Government Information Center coordinator Kier Gideon Paolo Gapayao, on the other hand, talked about Responsible Sharing of Information and provided an overview of the CAGIO.

(The information we have as development communicators, we utilize this to empower people.)
He also pointed out that everything that is being done by government officers is to improve the quality of life of the Filipino people.
"Iyong digital behavior natin affects our real-life interactions. As government IOs it also holds true dahil kung sino tayo online iyon ang magiging parameter minsan ng mga tao kung tayo ay reliable ba na source of information," he said.
(Our digital behavior also affects our real-life interactions. As government IOs, it also holds true because whoever we are online is also one of the parameters for people to gauge whether we are reliable sources of information.)
He also noted the importance of verifying information first and foremost before creating one's own content citing the role of information officers as content creators.
Responsible sharing of information is not only about responsibly sharing information through social platforms but also creating content that will contribute in improving our society, he added.
Meanwhile, PIA Calabarzon social media manager Fredmoore Cavan discussed the possible collaboration among government line agencies in promoting each programs and sharing valuable information through social media.
