CARIGARA, Leyte, Sept. 20 (PIA) -- Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles yesterday afternoon gave the ceremonial key to a family who are occupants of a house, the act representing turnover of at least 640 units to housing recipients at Ecoville 2, Barangay Sagkahan, this municipality.
He also signed memorandum of agreements (MOAs), including deed of donation and acceptance (DODA), with the counterpart Mayors, for similar shelter projects in other towns of the region under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program through the National Housing Authority (NHA).
Present in the signing ceremonies, in addition to the host Mayor, Eduardo Ong, were the signatory mayors or representative official from Baybay City and the four towns of Biliran province, namely, Cabucgayan, Biliran, Naval, and Almeria.
The district manager of NHA-Region 8, Marilyn Lauzon, was also among the signatories.
The housing projects in Region 8 for Yolanda victims are "almost 80 percent complete," the Cabinet official said during the thanksgiving program, adding that the pace of work has gone faster.
"Hangad natin ay matapos nang buong-buo pagkatapos ng termino ni Presidente Duterte, maibigay ng libre sa mga beneficiaries," Nograles pointed out.
Concerns in other housing areas, such as the need for water and electricity in the communities, were duly referred to the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) and the National Electrification Administration (NEA). respectively, he added.
In addition to giving houses, Nograles quoted the desire of President Duterte for these sites to develop into a township covered by basic services of the government, like school buildings, health centers, and day-care centers.
Each of the 640 housing units has an area of 40 square meters.
Ecoville 2 encompassed an area of five hectares complete with road networks and open spaces, and a gymnasium. (LDL/MMP/PIA-8, Southern Leyte)
