BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Feb. 21 (PIA) - Officials of the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) recently distributed cash assistance to farmers affected by the Rice Tarification Law (RTL).
Governor Carlos Padilla said the assistance was given through the Expanded Survival and Recovery Assistance Program for Rice Farmers Program (SURE Aid) forged between the LBP and the Department of Agriculture (DA).
"This is a welcome assistance for our farmers who are now feeling the brunt of the Rice Tarification Law. Our provincial government is also giving help and working for other possibilities of more assistance to sufficiently help our farmers," he said.
The assistance involves the distribution of P15,000 which can be withdrawn through an ATM card issued by the LBP.
The 990 farmer-recipients came from the 15 towns of the province who earlier sought the assistance of municipal agriculture workers to cushion the effect of the RTL.
The recipients were assessed and evaluated by the Municipal Agriculture Officers (MAOs), Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) and the DA.
The program aims to assist the rice farmers whose incomes were affected by the drop in the farm gate price of palay.
It will provide a one-time loan assistance of P15,000 to rice farmers who are farming one hectare and below at 0% interest rate payable for eight years. (ALM/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
