NABUNTURAN, Davao de Oro, Feb. 20 (PIA) - The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency XI (PDEA) declared the six barangays of the municipality of Laak as drug-cleared villages.

The identified barangays were Aguinaldo, Belmonte, Concepcion, Mangloy, Melale and Sta. Emilia.

In a ceremony held on Thursday, February 20, PDEA XI Regional Director Antonio Rivera announced the declaration as the chairman of the Regional Oversight Committee.

Rivera said that among the criteria for the declaration are the proper intervention for drug personalities under the police and barangay's unified watchlist, drug free workplace and the active campaign against illegal drugs of barangay officials.

Despite the bulk requirements, Punong Barangay Peter Molero of Barangay Melale was glad to be included in the declaration.

Laak Mayor Antonio 'Ay-Eng' Libuangan lauded the efforts the Municipal Anti-Drug and Abuse Council, barangay officials, police and other agencies for the successful declaration, which will eventually lead for a drug-cleared municipality soon.

Ato paning pagwapohon kay maulaw ta," Libuangan said.

Aside from the six barangay, seven barangays are on the process of drug-clearing. Laak has a total of 40 barangays. (PIA11, Michael Uy with reports from Laak Information Office)
