SIQUIJOR, Feb. 24 (PIA) -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Siquijor called on watercraft owners in the province to register their boats with their office for safety and security purposes.
During this month's Pulong-pulong/Kapihan sa PIA with the Siquijor Association of Information Disseminators (SAID), Acting Station Commander Jesus Bertolfo said the call is in line with the government's program to register and tag all boats nationwide for security and safety purposes.
Bertolfo said under the Security, Safety and Environment Numbering System (SSEN), PCG registers motor bancas/pump boats by municipality provincewide.
He said a registered vessel is assigned a specific number related to the region of origin to facilitate easy identification of its owner or track vessels that are possibly used by criminal elements.
As of Feb. 6, 2020, PCG-Siquijor has already registered 900 bancas, added PO2 and Information Officer Ian Villarin, Jr. during the Kapihan Forum.
Registration is free, he said. (rac/PIA7-Siquijor)
