CEBU CITY, Feb. 27 (PIA) -- The National Youth Commission (NYC) has announced they are now accepting applicants for the 47th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP).

SSEAYP is an annual cultural and educational exchange program that started in 1974 by virtue of a Joint Statement between the ASEAN Member States and Japan that seeks to promote goodwill, friendship, and mutual understanding.

In the Philippines, the NYC, in cooperation with other partner agencies, will select the youth participants who will represent the 17 regions and one national leader.

There will be 28 participating youths to be chosen whose age range from 18 to 30 years together with a national leader of 35 to 55 years of age.

Participants must be knowledgeable about the Philippines, ASEAN, and Japan history, geography, culture, and government.

They will convene in Japan onboard the Japanese luxury liner, MS Nippon Maru, to embark on a 52-day cruise to ASEAN countries for port of call activities, discussion and voluntary activities, Solidarity Group (SG) activities, Participating Youth (PY) seminars, and interactions with other youth participants.

NYC also leads the implementation of the Philippine Country Program in cooperation with other government and non-government entities, including the alumni of the program through the SSEAYP International Philippines.

Submission of applications for the 47th SSEAYP is open until March 30, 2020, not later than 5:00 p.m.

For more information, interested applicants may visit 47thSSEAYPPHPY to download the application form. (fan/PIA7 with reports from NYC)
