Baguio City rolls out rolling store during COVID-19 crisis

BAGUIO CITY, Apr. 4(PIA) - The city government rolled out the Rolling Store project at the Bayan Park Basketball Court in the city on Friday in the midst of the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) to help address the limited access of people to the market or groceries to buy their needed food supplies and other necessities.

The rolling store is a joint project of the City Government, the Association of Barangay Council, Department of Trade and Industry-CAR and Dept. of Agriculture -CAR in partnership with TiongSan Harrison and several market vendors designed to ease congestion at the Baguio City Market during the implementation of the ECQ due to the COVID-19 treat.

Aside from grocery items, agriculture products such as meat, fish and lowland and highland vegetables are also available in the mobile store.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong together with Councilor Michael Lawana and DTI officials led by Director Freda Gawisan were present during the roll out of the first Rolling Store to look into the situation of its operation and how it could be improved in other barangays.

Magalong said they observed cooperation among the residents who fall in line and waited for their turn patiently to buy their needed supplies. They ensured a clean and orderly buying of goods while observing the precautionary measures against COVID-19 to include social distancing.

Lawana added that barangay officials of Bayan Park implemented a scheme that would ensure a very orderly way of buying and selling within the area which also gives priority to senior citizens and pregnant women.

Residents going to the rolling stores are advised to observe social distancing, wear facemask at all times, have ready shopping list and eco bags.

The mayor said the rolling stores will be replicated in several districts in the city including the Loakan Airport area, Irisan barangay and other locations. (JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
