BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, April 7(PIA) - Government agecncies here will be going after business establishments violating the price freeze under the Price Act Law to protect consumers from unscrupulous price hikes.
This developed with the creationof the Provincial Price Monitoring Task Force (PPMTF) headed by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in a meeting today at the provincial capitol headed by Governor Carlos Padilla.
With the DTI representative as the chairperson, the PPMTF is composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Health (DOH), Provincial Legal Officer (PLO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO), Philippine Information Agency (PIA) and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), among others.
"We will conduct monitoring activities on suspected areas where overpricing is rampant in our province so that these abusive businessmen will be charged accordingly by violating the Price Act and Price Freeze," said Rowena Mayangat, DTI Chief Trade and Industry Development Specialist and PPMTF chairperson.
The PPMTF, she added will be responsible in ensuring the implementation of the price freeze for basic commodities and prime necessities with the declaration of a State of Health Emergency in the country by President Rodrigo Duterte due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mayangat said the PPMTF members will be conducting price monitoring activities to ensure that the Suggested Retail Prices (SRPs) of basic commodities and prime necessities will be stable during the Ehanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) period.(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
