SAN FERNANDO CITY, May 21 (PIA) - The Department of Social Welfare and Development in the Ilocos (DSWD-1) almost completed the distribution of the cash assistance under Social Amelioration Program (SAP) to all of their target beneficiaries in the region.
Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo, regional director of DSWD Field Office 1, reported that 772,150 out of 819,594 SAP beneficiaries in Ilocos Region received the cash assistance amounting to 4.2 billion pesos, which translates to 97.32 percent rate of completion.
As of May 19, there are 108 out of 125 local government units (LGU) in the region that have completed their distribution of SAP. Of these, 45 LGUs already submitted their liquidation report.
"Sa mga LGU nakakompleto na sa pamamahagi ng SAP, magsisimula na po ang validation na gagawin ng ating departamento kasama po ang Department of the Interior and Local Government, Philippine National Police, at Armed Forces of the Philippines," said Castillo.
He said the validation of SAP recipients is important as this will detect duplication of assistance to one recipient and to assess if the beneficiaries are eligible of the said cash aid.
Per province, the breakdown of beneficiaries who received the cash assistance is as follows: 103,123 in Ilocos Sur; 144,938in La Union; 431,647 in Pangasinan; and 92,442 in Ilocos Norte.
Further, he mentioned that their office has begun posting the list of SAP recipients who had received the cash aid on their official website for transparency purposes.
Meanwhile, Castillo said they have yet to receive the guidelines from the Office of the President concerning the release of the second tranche for SAP.
Likewise, on the May 20 episode of the Laging Handa Network Briefing, DSWD Sec. Rolando Bautista provided nationwide status on the implementation of SAP.
He said the distribution in the entire country is already at 96.49 percent completion with over 17.36 million out of 18 million SAP beneficiaries benefitting from the financial assistance under the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act. (JCR/JND/JTQ/PIA-1)
