DAVAO CITY, May 21 (PIA) - Only 215 individuals out of the total 4,148 individuals tested for RT-PCR in Davao City have positive results on the corona virus.
This data presented by Department of Health XI Assistant Regional Director Dr. Lenny Joy Rivera in the One Davao on COVID19 Virtual Presser held last Tuesday, supported the stand of the DOH XI that they prefer to do expanded targeted testing rather mass testing.
" With this data we have, dapat ang natetest natin ay yung mga na-aassess natin. Meaning yung may mga signs and symptoms, history of travel, and exposure or close contact to a COVID case. They have a bigger chance of acquiring the virus," Dr. Rivera said.
The DOH XI reported in the past month that it has been testing its health workers as part of the expanded targeted testing strategy of the DOH. While there may be low risk because they have been provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), but the DOH XI conducted series of tests for the health workers before and after rendering service as frontliners.
" Mass testing is not cost efficient and cost effective. We still prefer isolation of individuals who manifest signs and symptoms. Everyone should be responsible for our actions. Our behavior must be towards staying and living healthy", said Dr. Rivera.
The DOH XI also highlighted that reliability of test for asymptomatic is still not that strong. She said this is also the reason why the Rapid Test for antibodies has not been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO). (PIA XI/Frances Mae Macapagat)
