DAVAO CITY, May 28 (PIA)- A delicious meal of crispy fried chicken with soft drinks awaits residents of the cluster with lowest or zero COVID-19 cases in Davao City as announced by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

The Mayor announced the distribution of prizes to the winning clusters during her regular radio program at the Davao City Disaster Radio yesterday (May 28).

The Jollibee fried chicken distribution is slated to happen today (May 29) at the following areas: Baguio District-Malagos Elementary School, Calinan District-Calinan Gym, Tugbok Distict- Mintal Gym, Toril District- Toril Gym, Marilog District- Marilog Proper Gym. These areas belong to Clusters 4 and 5 who were tied with the lowest number of COVID-19 cases among Davao City clusters.

Clusters 4 and Cluster 5 each had registered seven COVID-19 cases each (as of May 24).

The clustering concept was implemented by the City Government during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), it grouped contiguous areas in the city and limited the movement of residents within their clusters.

Mayor Duterte-Carpio would later announce that the cluster with the lowest number of COVID cases will receive 10,000 Jollibee Chicken Joy meals which consists of a Jollibee fried chicken with rice and soft drink.

"Sana ay wala nang madagdag sa positive ninyo, yan lang ang tanging wish namin para sa inyo, Tugbok, Toril, Marilog, Calinan at Baguio," the Mayor congratulated the winning clusters.

The Mayor said she and her fellow residents at Cluster 1 is not deserving of the prize as they had the highest number of cases at 131.

"Kulelat tayo (we performed badly)" said of her cluster's performance

"Kami sa cluster 1 gidawat na namo ang among kapalaran, (We in Cluster 1, accepted our fate)" The Mayor jested.

She said the high population of Cluster 1 which covers the first district of Davao encompassing the downtown area is the main reason why the cluster has the highest number of cases.

The clustering resulted in a social media sensation as it spawned into friendly online cluster wars, with people egging on their respective clusters to follow the strict ECQ guidelines like staying at home in order to win the prize.

The clustering is no longer being used as the City is following High-Risk Areas travel guide where the city identifies barangays with high number of COVID cases and informs the public with the relevant data.

"We leave it sa mga tao, we inform them asa ang delikado and we leave it to you, na magingat kung muadto mo didto and kung di mo kinihanglan muduol didto, ayaw mo duol (We leave it to the people, we inform them where it is hazardous and we leave it to you to be careful in going there and if you are not needed to go there, do not go), the Mayor Duterte-Carpio said.
