ILOILO CITY, July 4 (PIA) - The provincial government of Guimaras clarified that it has still no case of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the island.
On Friday, July 3, the provincial government said that Guimarasnon repatriated Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who tested positive for COVID-19 are not in Guimaras, according to a post on its official Facebook page.
These repatriated OFWs are quarantined first in facilities identified by the Regional Inter-Agency Task Force, while LSIs are quarantined at EON hotels, the post said.
It added that "They then undergo reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) testing and those who test positive for COVID-19 will only be allowed to go home once they have fully recovered."
Further, the provincial government urged the public to stop spreading fake news and inaccurate information regarding the presence of the disease in the island-province.
Guimaras is the only province in Western Visayas with zero COVID-19 cases in its area.
It is one of the three areas in the region, along with Aklan and Antique, that are under the modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) low risk classification by the National Inter-Agency Task Force. (LTP/Guimaras Provincial Government/CBA/PIA-6)
