KALIBO, Aklan, July 8 (PIA) -- Secretary Silvestre Bello III of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) expressed his willingness to help Kalibonhons and Aklanons, in general, whose livelihood and income had been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a live interview in the Laging Handa Network Briefing aired over Radyo Pilipinas this morning with him and Kalibo mayor Emerson Lachica as guest, he promised to help Kalibonhons whose jobs were affected by COVID-19 in Boracay Island, due to the temporary closure of establishments there.
"Give me 15 names of your affected constituents because DOLE will provide them with galvanized motorized bancas to be used for their livelihood in Boracay," Bello told Lachica, on the latter's appeal for help for the displaced Kalibonhons.
Asked by Rodnel Aguirre, local media partner from RMN-DYKR Kalibo, on the assistance that DOLE can offer to displaced Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the Secretary said the government will be giving P10,000.00 each to those who lost their jobs due to COVID-19.
"Baka may kilala kang mga OFW, sabihan mong mag-apply para sa P10,000.00 na cash assistance sa Overseas Workers Welfare Administration," Bello said to Aguirre.
Another media partner, Jun Aguirre, asked Bello about the agency's programs to help workers in Boracay.
To this, the DOLE secretary said they have sent advisories to hotels and other establishments in Boracay not to terminate their workers.
Rather, these employers should talk to their employees and arrange a flexible work scheme for them where they could work for 5 or 3 days or on rotation, so employees will not lose their jobs.
Bello also gave assurance to OFWs that for as long as President Rodrigo Duterte is here, government help will be provided to them, because the President loves the OFWs very much.
The Laging Handa Network Briefing is aired daily from Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. anchored by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar. (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
