DAVAO CITY July 9, 2020 (PIA) The chief of the City Health Office of Davao bared that initial swabbing of patients from Barangay 23-C yielded 10 persons positive of COVID-19 infection and after four days, the number rose to 88 positive cases.
Dr. Josephine Villafuerte, City Health Officer said the situation has alarmed the health authorities since the infection spreads fast, and many residents still have to undergo swab tests.
She said prior to the implementation of the lockdown, many residents still worked at nearby malls as cashiers and shoppers' guide.
Villafuerte said some residents went to the malls as merchandisers.
"They moved around putting at risk other residents in the city," Villafuerte said.
Meanwhile, Councilor Diosdado Mahipus, Jr., one of the team leaders monitoring the situation in Agdao, Bunawan and Paquibato urged families of new arrivals especially workers from other countries to wait for the end of the quarantine before mingling with them as he called on overseas workers not to mix with family members and friends while waiting for the result of their swab tests.
He said now is the time that everyone needs to be cautious on dealing even with direct family members because of the COVID-19 infection.
Mahipus said that while waiting for the result of the swab test, family members must stay away from new arrivals.
He stressed that the public must not relax its guard against COVID 19 and must avoid mingling with large number of people.
"Let us keep the circle of friends small and to wear face masks properly," Mahipus said. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
