HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported 48 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the total confirmed cases in Hong Kong to 4,360.

The newly-reported cases included two imported cases and 46 local infections. Among the local cases, 37 are related to previously confirmed cases, mostly clusters concerning gatherings of families, Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the CHP's Communicable Disease Branch, told a media briefing. JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 2,307 within one day to 135,123, with the death toll adding by 53 to 6,021, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, 2,060 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 89,618. (Indonesia-COVID-19)

MANILA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines surged to 153,660 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,216 new daily cases on Friday.

The DOH said that the number of recoveries further rose to 71,405 after 1,038 more patients recovered. (Philippines-COVID-19)

SEOUL -- South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Hong Nam-ki said Friday that his government expected the economy would rebound in the third quarter based on recent positive signs of economic recovery.

"It is possible enough (for the South Korean economy) to record a positive growth in the third quarter... The third-quarter result would be of great significance as it can determine the fourth-quarter outcome," Hong said in a press conference with foreign correspondents in Seoul. (SKorea-Economy)

KABUL -- A policewoman and two government employees were killed by militants in two Afghan provinces on Thursday, the latest in a string of targeted attacks in the country, sources said Friday.
