SAN FERNANDO City, Sept. 19 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) is now accepting applicants for the fisheries scholarship program for the school year 2021-2022.
Rosario Segundina Gearlan, officer-in-charge of BFAR Region 1, said the program is open not only to children of registered fisherfolk but also for other sectors who wish to .
"Ang programang ito ay para sa mga anak ng ating mga mangigisda o maski hindi anak ng mga magingisda ay maaari ding makakuha ng scholarship. Mayroon din tayong slots for the indigenous people," she said.
A total of 26 scholars will be accommodated of which 20 fisherfolks' children will be under the Fisherfolk Children Educational Grant (FCEG), while three slots each will be given to non-fisherfolk children under the Fisheries Industry Leaders Grant (FILG) and to member of the indigenous groups under the Indigenous Cultural Community (ICC) Grant Program.
Interested individuals must comply with the documentary requirements such as the duly accomplished FCEG, FILG or ICC forms which can be downloadable in the link https://bit.ly/2RyQtkw, original copy of birth certificate, certified true copy of report card, certificate of good moral character, two recent 2x2 photos, barangay residence certificate of parents.
Moreover, fisherfolks' children must also submit a photocopy of Mangingisda Juan ID or certificate of registration of parents to the municipal agriculturist office while non-fisherfolk children must present a certification from school head that the applicant belongs to the top ten of the graduating class. ICC applicants, on the otherhand, must submit a certificate of tribe membership.
Gaerlan said, "Kailangan din nilang pumasa sa competitive examination at sa entrance examination ng ating mga state universities na nag-ooffer ng kursong fisheries."
The competitive examination is scheduled on December 5, 2020 to be held at the Pangasinan State University in Pangasinan, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University in La Union, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State Colleges in Ilocos Sur, and Mariano Marcos State University in Ilocos Norte.
Applications must be submitted to the regional office located in this city, or to the municipal/city agricultural office not later than October 30, 2020.
Scholars will receive a Php5,000 monthly stipend; Php2,000 book allowance per semester; Php3,000 practicum allowance; Php7,000 cash assistance during thesis writing; and Php1,500 support.
"Kailangan po nating mag-advocate at mang-engganyo ng ating mga kabataan na sumubok sa ating scholarship programs. Marami pong mapupuntahan at malayo ang mararating ng ating mga fisheries graduate," said Gaerlan. (JCR/JND/CGC, PIA La Union)
