MALIBCONG, Abra, Sep. 19 (PIA) - The operating troops of the 24thInfantry Battalion (IB) of the Philippine Army recovered an M14 rifle in a nipa hut in Brgy. Pacgued in this municipality during a combat operation.
"The recovery of this weapon is vital as it lessens the danger and treat not only to our troops but also against non-combatants around the area," 24thIB Commanding Officer Ulysis V. Lauded said.
As per the initial investigation, the recovered firearm reportedly belonged to "Rambo", one of the notorious New Peoples' Army (NPA) member in the province.
Meanwhile, the 7th Infantry Division reported that top-ranking NPA in Abra and other members have voluntarily surrendered to the 24IB based in Lagangilang along with their firearms and ammunitions.
Abra Governor Joy Bernos lauded the surenderees for heeding the call of the Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict for the rebels to return to mainstream society.
"We expect more recovery of NPA firearms and rebels returning in the province of Abra because of the active cooperation of local folks and Local Government Units (LGUs), all in support to the Executive Order No. 70 of President Rodrigo Duterte, institutionalizing a whole-of-nation approach in ending local communist armed-conflict". 7thID Brigadier General Audrey Pasia stated in the official facebook page of the unit.
