KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Oct. 22 (PIA) -- All public and private cemeteries in Koronadal City will be closed for the Undas Season.

Mayor Eliordo Ogena signed Executive Order No. 91 mandating "Temporary Closure of all Public and Private Memorial Parks, Cemeteries, [Columbaria] and the like in the Entire City of Koronadal from October 29 to November 4."

In the said order, Mayor Ogena emphasized the necessity of a restricting entry of visitors to necropolises to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease.

"The City of Koronadal recognizes the time-honored Filipino tradition of remembering our dearly departed every Undas Season. However, due to the imminent and virulent impact of COVID-19 pandemic in this City, it is of high significance and necessity to defer our Undas visitations and related activities this year, in order to prevent the influx of people to all public and private cemeteries memorial parks, [columbaria], and the like in the city, with the noble end to arrest and stem the further spike of confirmed COVID-19 cases," Mayor Ogena stated in the EO which he signed on October 15.

A copy of the order was posted at the City Government of Koronadal Facebook Page on Tuesday.

Atty. Christy Joy Sollesta, city legal officer, explained in a radio interview that the local order is based on IATF Resolution No. 72 series of 2020 dated September 17, 2020 which laid out rules governing activities relating to the onservance of Undas.

Sollesta advised the public to visit the tombs of their departed relatives before October 29 and after November 24 to prevent crowding in public and private cemeteries.

She also clarified that burials will not be prohibited while the cemeteries are temporarily closed. (DED-PIA XII)
