KUALA LUMPUR -- Closer cooperation among Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China, fostered by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement, among others, would contribute to the world economic recovery in the post COVID-19 era, said a Malaysian expert.

"As the world is seeking an economic recovery, the cooperation and interaction between China and ASEAN is now even more important," said Ong Tee Keat, founding chairman of the Center for New Inclusive Asia, a think tank based in Kuala Lumpur. (Malaysia-China-ASEAN)

MANILA -- The Department of Health of the Philippines on Wednesday reported 1,438 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) infection, bringing the total number in the country to 434,357.

The DOH said 232 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 399,005. The death toll climbed to 8,436 after 18 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added. (Philippines-COVID-19)

SEOUL -- South Korean stocks hit all-time closing highs for two straight days Wednesday as foreign investors bought local stocks, especially tech shares amid expectations for positive earnings.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) soared 41.65 points, or 1.58 percent, to settle at 2,675.90. Trading volume stood at 1.06 billion shares worth 16.9 trillion won (15.4 billion U.S. dollars). (South Korea-Stock market-Record high)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 9,499,413 on Wednesday as 36,604 new cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data from the federal health ministry.

According to the data, the death toll mounted to 138,122 as 501 COVID-19 patients died since Tuesday morning. There are still 428,644 active cases in the country, while 8,932,647 people have been discharged so far from hospitals after medical treatment, added the ministry's latest data. (India-Pandemic)
