KALIBO, Aklan, Jan. 15 (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Aklan is determined to buy anti-COVID-19 vaccines.
Governor Florencio T. Miraflores said the province is currently preparing for the vaccine roll-out in the province. If vaccines are already available, he said, the province is prepared to buy these.
First to be vaccinated are the Aklanon frontliners, health care workers, and the vulnerable sectors who could be easily infected by the disease like senior citizens and those who are already suffering from other diseases, when the vaccines are already available..
As to the budget for the purchase of the vaccines, the governor said the province has already an initial negotiation with a government financial institution for this matter.
Miraflores said the province will take into consideration the efficacy and price of the vaccines to be purchased.
In the midst of the province's effort to buy anti-COVID-19 vaccines, however, he reminded Aklanons to continue following health protocols especially as there is now a new strain of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, in coordination with the provincial government, various local government units in Aklan are now planning to purchase their respective supply of anti-COVID-19 vaccines for their constituents.
According to Ibajay mayor and League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) - Aklan president Jose Enrique Miraflores, these Aklan LGUs are currently looking for funds for the purchase of said vaccines.
The Aklan LGUs are also preparing their respective Ligtas Covid Centers (LCCs) where they could house, isolate and quarantine for 14 days their COVID-19 positive residents. This is due to the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in Aklan.
At latest count, the province has already 535 COVID-19 cases. (JSC/VGV/PIA6 Aklan)
