MARAWI CITY, Jan. 22 (PIA) -- Skills and capabilities of cooperatives in this city will be improved as a livelihood training center will soon rise in Barangay Biaba-Damag.

Spearheaded by Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM), a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the center worth Php25 million was held Thursday, Jan. 21

TFBM Chairperson Sec. Eduardo del Rosario said the Task Force is not only focusing on infrastructure development but also non-infrastructure projects like livelihood.

"We are focusing on two things - infrastructure development just like what we're doing now in the most affected area and non-infrastructure which is also a very vital component - and this is livelihood development through cooperative organization," he said.

He told the cooperatives that they "can now have a house of their own, where they can develop their skills and have their values of cooperation."

The TFBM chief also emphasized that cooperation is key for the success of cooperatives.

"Cooperative connotes cooperation and that is required and demanded form each and every official and member of a given cooperative. Without cooperation it will be mismanaged and your objective will fail and you will not achieve anything," he added.

Meanwhile, CDA Asec. Pendatun Disimban said the center will provide a huge boost for the recovery of internally displaced persons who lost their livelihood due to the siege in 2017.

"Ang center ay isa sa pinakamahalaga para sa pagbangon ng IDPs. Ito ay simbolo na magpapatuloy ang pagbibigay ng livelihood training sa IDPs," he said.

[The center is one of the most significant aspects that will help IDPs to recover. This symbolizes that livelihood training for IDPs will continue.]

Abdulsalam Batao, general manager of Oisca Farm Multi-purpose Cooperative, expressed gratitude for the construction of the center. He said that it will help develop the skills of the farmers of their cooperative.
