CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Jan. 22 (PIA)--Upon the availability of funds, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 will facilitate the re-employment of 643 contact tracers in the region.
About 60 contact tracers will be rehired in Bukidnon, Camiguin (10), Lanao del Norte (98), Misamis Occidental (76), Misamis Oriental (75), Cagayan de Oro City (173), Iligan City (140), and Regional Office (2), DILG-10 Regional Director Arnel Agabe said during the NorMin COVID-19 Response Task Force press conference, January 22.
"We are closely looking into the local government units ang naa'y mga active o bag-ong cases and of course kung asa sila nahire didto sila i-assign (with active or new cases and of course they will be hired in the area where they will be assigned). But they can also be assigned in LGUs where services are needed the most," Agabe added.
The director added that as President Rodrigo Duterte extended the validity of Bayanihan 2, the region will rehire 30 percent of its 2,000 contact tracers.
The contact tracers will be ranked based on their performance to determine those who will be rehired for another three to four months upon availability of funds.
These contact tracers are hired by the DILG to augment the current number of Contact Tracing Teams (CTTs) in the LGUs and they are tasked to carry out contact tracing, active surveillance, public health risk assessment, and health education in the communities.
The DILG will utilize P1.4-billion from the unreleased balance from Republic Act 11519 or the extension of the validity of appropriations under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act that will supplement the P500 million that has been allocated for the hiring of CTs in the 2021 General Appropriations Act.
