DAVAO CITY, Jan. 22 (PIA) - The Municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental province reported no damages after an earthquake struck at around 8:23 p.m., Jan. 21.
"With the help of our former Mayor Jimmy Joyce, na-contact po natin thru radio ang mga barangay natin at nakumusta natin ang kalagayan ng mga JASenyos. Ikinatutuwa nating ibalita na walang reported damages at injuries (We contacted thru radio our barangays and inquired about the situation of the JASenyos, we are glad to report that there were no reported damages and injuries)," Jose Abad Santos Mayor Jason John Joyce said.
According to the PhiVolcs, the quake has a magnitude of 7.1, its epicenter is 244 kilometers east of Jose Abad Santos and depth of 111 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued.
Mayor Joyce immediately after the quake inspected the structures around the Municipality, he found no major damages.
Sisimulan na ng Engineering Office natin ang pag-check sa mga buildings lalo na ang mga schools na pansamantala nating ginagamit as COVID facilities (Our Engineering Office will start to checl the buildings particularly the schools which are temporarily being used as COVID facilities), the mayor said.
The quake was also felt in areas around the southeastern part of Mindanao, no major damages or casualties were reported.
The earthquake scared and alarmed many residents in towns and cities of southeastern Mindanao, as the area was hit by a series of strong earthquakes in 2019, which destroyed thousands of structures and killed dozens of people. (PIA/RG Alama)
