CALAMBA CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) - Eighty eight (88) new recoveries from the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been recorded in the CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Batangas, Quezon)region, the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday, January 22.
In its 3 P.M. update, DOH-CALABARZON has recorded 66,699 total recoveries from the disease.
However, with 145 new infections and three (3) new deaths, CALABARZON has now recorded 72,880 total confirmed cases-4,109 of which are considered as active-and a 2,072 death toll.
Of the region's five provinces, highly industrialized areas reported the highest number of confirmed cases.
Cavite held the highest number of infections in the entire region, recording 19, 176 total confirmed cases, 728 of which are considered active or contagious, with 17,899 total recoveries and 549 fatalities.
It was followed closely by Laguna with 16 new cases, bringing the total confirmed cases to 19,066 with 913 active cases. The province has now reported 17,727 total recoveries, while the death toll is now at 426.
Compared to its neighbors, Batangas province has reported a lesser number of infections with 28 new cases.
To date, it has reported a total number of 12, 179 confirmed cases, 367 of which are reported as active. They have also recorded 11,439 recoveries and 373 fatalities.
Rizal province reported 42 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 15,744, with 13,759 recoveries and 522 deaths.
On the other hand, Quezon continues to report the lowest number of COVID-19 infections in the region, with 59 new cases. In its final tally, the province has 6,715 total number of confirmed cases, with 5,875 recoveries and 202 death toll.
On January 21, the DOH confirmed the post-holiday surge in the regions outside the capital, to which CALABARZON is included.
"We are still currently facing the threat of Covid-19 and we need every one's cooperation in preventing its spread in the community. Sa ngayon, nagkakaroon na ng kapabayaan sa pagpapatupad ng safety protocols dahil marami ng mga tao sa lansangan at lumalabas ng kanilang bahay na walang suot na mask at nakikihalubilo kung kani-kanino sa daan," Sydiongco has warned in December last year.
