DATU ODIN SINSUAT, Maguindanao - Police are trying to pursue two "persons of interest" linked to the shooting of a widow and her son in Talayan, Maguindanao on Sunday.
Col. Jibin Bongcayao, Maguindanao police director, said Monday that victims Zahariya Bansuan and her 14-year-old son died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.
Bongcayao said the mother was driving a motorbike with her son around 5 p.m. Sunday while traversing the national highway in Sitio Matalam, Barangay Poblacion, Talayan, Maguindanao when they were attacked by riding-in-tandem suspects.
The gunmen sped off toward adjacent Datu Piang town after the incident.
"We believed it was due to a long-drawn grudge," Bongcayao said, adding that the victim's husband was also shot dead last month in Cotabato City.
Bongcayao has directed all police units in Talayan and the adjacent police stations in Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Guindulungan, Datu Piang and Datu Salibo to use their intelligence network in tracking down the suspects.
"We hope to get them soon as I believe they are still in the province," he said.
Responding policemen found empty shells for a .45-caliber pistol at the crime scene. (PNA)
