ANGELES CITY, Pampanga - The city government here has issued an order disallowing the holding of face-to-face parties this Christmas season among individuals not staying in the same dwelling.
Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr., in his executive order (EO) issued on Monday, said the move is a measure to prevent the possible entry of the Omicron variant of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) that has been detected in some countries.
"Ginagawa lamang po natin ang mga necessary safety measures bilang pag-iingat po sa ating mga kababayan, lalo na po ngayon na mayroon na namang bagong variant na nade-detect sa ibang bansa (We are only doing the necessary safety measures for the protection of our citizens, especially now that there is a new variant detected in other countries)," he said in a social media post.
The EO stated the prohibition of any Christmas and New Year parties and similar social gatherings in offices, establishments, and companies; reunions among relatives and family members who live in different homes; reunions with former colleagues and schoolmates; and parties with individuals who are part of the same group or organization.
The mayor advised his constituents to stay vigilant despite the steady decline in Covid-19 cases in the city.
"Let us not put our guard down. In this upcoming holiday season, we should be of help to one another in putting an end to this pandemic. Ito naman po ang tunay na kahulugan ng mga selebrasyon na ito - pagmamahalan at pagtutulungan (This is the true meaning of this celebration-love and cooperation)," he added.
As of Sunday, there are only 10 active Covid-19 cases in this city. (PNA)
