BUTUAN CITY - Six cities and 51 municipalities in the Caraga Region are joining the Community-Based Monitoring System (CBMS) rollout that began on August 8.

In a statement Thursday, the Philippine Statistics Authority in the region (PSA-13) said the CBMS is mandated by Republic Act 11315, or the Community-Based Monitoring System Act which was signed into law on April 17, 2019, by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

"The cities and municipalities in the region shall be the primary data collecting authority within their respective localities," the PSA-13 said.

The CBMS in Caraga will adopt the Computer-Assisted Personal Interview in the gathering of information, the agency added.

"As the need arises, the traditional paper and pencil Interview method will be used," it said, adding that minimum health protocols will be observed during the conduct of face-to-face surveys.

The CBMS aims to generate the region's key development indicators specifically on health, nutrition, housing, water and sanitation, basic education, income, employment, and peace and order.

The PSA-13 noted that the results of the CBMS are vital for planning, program implementation, and impact monitoring for poverty alleviation and socio-economic development.

"The CBMS is a technology-based system of collecting, processing, and validating disaggregated data at the local level," it said. (PNA)
